Many people have questions about the differences between All-Season Tire vs. All-Weather Tires vs. Winter Tires. Understanding what makes each type of tire useful and unique can help you make the right decisions that positively affect your car's lifespan.

All Season Tires

All-season tires are designed to adapt to a variety of circumstances. They can perform well in warm or rainy weather. Their more substantial, more durable rubber allows them to last longer. These tires can handle all types of scenarios in temperatures above seven degrees Celsius. Their finer treads provide excellent traction in rain or sunshine. However, these treads are ill-suited to heavy snow or slush demands, and the hard rubber can make getting a grip on cold roads more difficult.

Winter Tires

Winter tires are made of a softer type of rubber and have blockier treads that make them well-suited to the demands of weather below seven degrees. While they have less rigid rubber, these tires can connect better to colder roads to better handle and stop. In addition to larger treads, these tires include siping. Siping helps to push slush and snow off the tires, so they work at maximum effectiveness. Some of these tires also have studs to provide extra grip and traction. They are designed to perform well in the most severe snowy or icy conditions.

All-Weather Tires

All-weather tires exist as a compromise between the two other types. They can work above or below seven degrees. The rubber used in them can remain somewhat flexible in winter conditions, but it is also stronger and more durable than winter tires. Their treads can handle some snow or slush, but they can struggle with more severe winter weather. If you live somewhere where the winter is not as extreme, this type of tire can be an excellent solution for much of the year.
